Emmons Glacier from Camp Curtis

We attempted to summit Mount Rainier via the Emmons/Winthrop glacer route. Unfortunately, I was hit with AMS at just under 12,000 feet, forcing us to descend. This was a major blow, but I felt better after getting back to camp. Did I mention there was much talk of yetis?

Off the Bush Taxi

After much work, I have finally managed to complete processing and uploading the 100 or so photos from the Niger portion of my recent trip to West Africa. There are still photos from Ghana, Togo and Benin to follow (hopefully soon).

I was recently taught a very quick and easy way to read Google News from other countries, thus gaining a more international perspective, even if you don't speak the language very well.

1. Go to Google News and scroll to the bottom of the page, where a series of links to news for other countries is available. For example:
   • Cuba
   • Deutschland
   • Venezuela
2. Once you have the link, use Google's language tools to translate the url from step 1.

That's it. Links clicked from within the translated page will automatically be translated...

Bushwhacking, snow, ice and plastic pink boots.

Jake, Kyrin and I climbed the Mount Baker last weekend in stunning weather, without so much as a crevasse fall or yeti attack. All the photos are here.

All these photos were taken during a random ride east on I-10 in a borrowed Volvo named Ovlov in the fall or winter of 1997. Our destinations included the always lovely Chiriaco Summit, The George S. Patton Memorial Museum, and the abandoned Eagle Mountain, a former Kaiser Steel mine.

Thanks to this guy, I went and built a super-cheap macro lense out of some spare camera parts and a used can of jalepeno Pringles®. (Stay tuned here for future macro photos.)

This was the second trip to Slab City, Salvation Mountain, Niland, the Salton Sea, the Chocolate Mountain Impact Area and all that...the first time we were run out after being accused of stealing mopeds. (link to all photos)
